There comes a point in our lives where folks should reach their maximum potential when it comes to their employment. This list will help you work on your craft and put that spark back into your life. You get out of college to pursue a field you received your degree in but for most, it is not the case. No this doesn’t mean it cannot be done but it takes time to find what makes you tick. That feeling of invicibility is crushed after several rejections but essentially you are the only one who can defeat yourself. Dream employment doesn’t fall in your lap, you have to search high and low to get that gold. Change your motivation!
In the meantime, take the opportunity to work in a field where you can exercise your strengths and work at your weaknesses. My strengths are physical fitness, empathy, and exercising financial management and my downfall is discipline. I can procrastinate and wait last minute and in the adult life, that was not very fitting. I obtained a degree in Business Administration but didn’t have enough discipline so I joined the service, where they can get my behind in shape! While utilizing my strengths and improving my weakness, I asked questions, took on more responsibilities until they told me to go away. Bug the hell out of them! What I had to do is align myself with the company’s values and pave my own values: giving back to my community.
For those pursuing the entrepreneurial path, you must supply for your business. How will you provide for your dream employment if you aren’t utilizing your job role? Find out quick or life will pass you by! There is nothing worse than watching your friends on Facebook, hash tagging #workflow while you’re at home, jobless. Instead, stop comparing your situation to others; you never know what it took to get to that point. Separate yourself from social media and brainstorm, network, and be persistent. People tend to stop pursing what they love because they’ve heard way too many no’s; work on your craft and keep your eyes on the prize. While you work on your dream employment, work diligently at your current role. I may not be where I want to be but I make progress on a daily to get to where I want to be.
Here is how:
- Write down a list of how you want to create a purpose for yourself, your community, or whomever that drives you.
2. Write down a list of your strengths and weaknesses; don’t lie to yourself. If you can see it, then you can achieve it.
3. Write down companies you’d want to work for.
4. Help your company give more back into your community.
5. Partner with community organizations.
6. Fight for change.
Please share different ways you discovered yourself and what motivated you to do what you do.
